How do we do this?
Inspired by our successes (and lessons learned), we developed a methodology that assures the achievement of business change, whether it's a business start-up, an organizational restructuring, or large-scale transformation. Our methodology is called Transform Strategy to Action, or simply TS2A. TS2A establishes the keys to success and ensures that you are ready before commencing on a transformational journey. We apply this methodology to optimize your success and build up your business capability through trusted advice, training, mentoring, and production of valued strategies, plans, business designs, and roadmaps.
Active leadership is crucial for transformation initiatives involving people, processes, information, and technology—not just technology transitions. Leaders must deeply engage in defining the initiative’s vision, outcomes, and high-level planning and execution.
By clarifying project governance and sponsorship roles, leaders understand their responsibilities and the value of the initiative, motivating them to mobilize the right staff for support. Relying on minimal or peripheral involvement from team members is ineffective.
Leadership and key organizational members should engage in facilitated sessions to develop measurable outcomes for the initiative. By basing these outcomes on stakeholder needs and expectations (residents, communities, customers, partners, suppliers, employees, and other municipalities and government agencies), they become clear, meaningful, and relatable—answering “what’s in it for me?”. This approach fosters passion among both leadership and stakeholders, who see achieving these outcomes as critical to the initiative’s success and their own personal success.
Most project failures stem from inadequate management of the human side of change, not technology. Change management is often overlooked despite being best practice.
Conducting a readiness assessment uncovers “blind spots” by evaluating staff and stakeholders’ understanding of the vision, attitudes toward change, and perceptions of readiness.
These insights inform an adoption strategy that lays the foundation for stakeholder engagement, communication, training, knowledge transfer, and feedback mechanisms.
An Enterprise Business Architecture (EBA)—the Business Blueprint—clarifies organizational needs before transformation.
Assemble a working group from all impacted areas and levels, including leadership and frontline staff, plus EBA and business analysis specialists. External consultants can help develop the Blueprint, covering processes, policies, rules, structure, and technology models. With a clear future state, you can easily map out your path to achieve your goals.
It is recommended that you identify a Transformation Lead. The Transformation Lead is required to provide best-practice change management methods and approaches, tools, templates, and content as well as possess advanced knowledge of EBA & project management. Ideally the Transformation Lead is internal to the organization and if the assigned individual lacks the required in-depth expertise, it may be advantageous to engage an external consultant who has the necessary expertise to support to the Transformation Lead.
The Enterprise Business Architecture Framework integrates key business and technical architectures, colour-coded for clarity: green for business focus and blue for technical focus.
